Sylvia Alvarado McDonough lived a life marked by love, laughter, and unwavering passion. Born on December 3, 1963, in the humble town of
Mathis, Texas, Sylvia's journey was one of purpose and joy. She entered into eternal rest on February 12, 2026, in
Corpus Christi, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and dedication that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
Sylvia was a true embodiment of Catholic values, consistently demonstrating the love of Christ in her interactions with others. As a devoted wife to Michael McDonough Sr. and a nurturing mother to Eric Naranjo, Kelsey Chilton Dumes, Jon and Michael McDonough Jr., Damacio Villareal, and stepchildren Anthony and Angela McDonough, she laid a foundation of faith and compassion in her home. Her extended family, including her mother Delfina Alvarado, her brother Daniel Alvarado, were all blessed by her presence in their lives.
Professionally, Sylvia's calling as a certified EMT was just the beginning of her commitment to service. She spent the majority of her career as a dedicated corrections officer and drill sergeant at the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center. Her firm yet fair approach shaped the lives of many young individuals, guiding them toward brighter futures. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Sylvia opened her heart and home as a Foster Parent, providing love and stability to several children over the years.
Her life was a testament to the power of a joyous spirit. Sylvia's love for dancing and singing was infectious, bringing light and energy to any gathering. She found great pleasure in traveling, exploring new destinations, and creating lasting memories on cruises. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
Sylvia's passion extended to the realm of politics, where she engaged with fervor and conviction. Her voice was one of reason and care, always advocating for what she believed would bring the most good to her community and country.
In describing Sylvia, one would be remiss not to mention her sense of humor. She had a unique ability to find joy in the everyday and to share that joy with those around her. Her laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those she touched, and her funny anecdotes and jokes would often be the highlight of any conversation.
As we reflect on Sylvia's life, we are reminded of the scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant." She was indeed a faithful servant to her family, her community, and her God. Her love, humor, and passion were gifts that she generously bestowed upon the world, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Today, as we bid farewell to Sylvia, let us honor her memory by living with the same fervor and love that she exemplified. May her spirit continue to dance among us, reminding us to embrace life with open arms and to serve with a heart full of love. Her light will never fade, for it shines brightly within each life she has touched.
