Sylvia Millett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2024.
Our sweet mom, Sylvia Anne (Pelrine) Millett passed away on August 17th. Born to fine Acadian parents, Yvonne and Paul Pelrine, in Halifax on July 7th, 1940, she has been singing and sparkling joy and kindness ever since. Predeceased by her proud and dedicated husband, Jimmy, daughter Michelle, sisters Irene (Aucoin) and Janice (Topp), brother Dennis, niece Anne Marie (Aucoin/Bryne) and many other treasured friends and family members. Those of us who have survived her will miss her for the rest of our days. We are her daughters Joanne and Tara, son-in-law Angus Hope, grandchildren Jacob, Haley, Oliva, and Angus (II), and great granddaughter, Sofia with whom she celebrated their 4th and 84th birthdays this past July in BC. Mom's big sister, Julia (Demone), and sister-in-law Beulah, and baby brother, Paul (Susan) also survive mom. Mom and her family have shown us how to be united, strong, look out for one another, and do the right thing – we are blessed by their example. Mom's beloved nieces Paula, Arlene, Denise, Sarah, Laura, and Leslie, and nephews, Tony and John will miss mom, too, as will anyone who knew her. She cherished us all!

Strong beyond measure, filled with faith, devoted Catholic, treasured CWL member, and community volunteer extraordinaire, mom was also a very talented singer who made her debut on CBC radio in 1944. She was a most loyal friend to all and sundry who would give the shirt of her back plus a few more with shoes and purse to match.

Mom embodied love, joy, faith, integrity, kindness, strength, and a quiet determination. We could not be prouder to call her our mother and grandmother to our children. We will miss her and strive to keep her spirit of joy and kindness alive for all the days of our lives. Thank you to all who prayed for mom and sent us prayers and well wishes, and to the neurologists, nurses, and staff on 7.4 at the Infirmary for taking such good care of her and for seeing and feeling her sparkle and beautiful soul.

Mom's funeral mass will be held this Friday, August 23rd at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Bedford, followed by a reception at the church hall around noon. All are welcome to celebrate her wonderful life.

Love and Gratitude from Sylvia's daughter, Joanne and Tara.

Dear Joanne and Tara, I am so sorry I did not know of your Mom's death until this week. S. Marie McPherson gave me the sad news. I saw your Mom in the spring at the Anniversary of the St. Ignatius CWL; it was wonderful to be with her for awhile. I recall so many times she reached out to me and your neighbours and others during my days living in Bedford. Sympathy and prayers for you and all your family. love, Joan

Sylvia was a member of the EnChor East Singers Society. I got to meet her at Parkstone when the choir sang there before Christmas a couple of years ago. More than a few of us remember Sylvia sitting in the front and singing along with all our songs. She is remembered by those who were in the choir during her time as a. Dry sweet person. Sylvia, thank you for the music!!!

I sang with Sylvia in a couple of choirs. She was always so much fun and was always happy to see you even if it had been a while. She will be missed but is now singing with the angels.

Sylvia, Florence and myself travelling to PEI was one of the highlight I shared with my sister in the league. First we missed the turn off for the bridge, yes we were talking. Finally arriving at the Convention, and socializing with the girls. We settled in for two days of meetings and fun. Saying our good boys, headed to the boat.Arriving the parking lot was empty, saw the boat out in the bay. Florence got out ,checking the time for the next boat.Tomorrow AM. Our second. mistake!!!! We laughed ,and laughed so hard Sylvia peed her pants. I am laughing as I write. It was the high light of our travel. My dear, dear friend I miss our phone calls. Now you and Florence are singing in the Heavenly Choir

My sincerest condolences to Tara, Joanne, all family members and friends of Sylvia. I met Sylvia at Church, where she sang in the choir and was a great member of the CWL, of which, I also became a member. Sylvia was recognized as a loyal volunteer, not only at Church but also in the wider community. I remember one year she was officially recognized for her great volunteer skills and contributions by the town of Bedford. Anyone who knew Sylvia knew she had, within her, the wonderful spiritual attributes of charity, compassion, empathy, kindness, love, respect and gratitude. I loved her smile and infectious laughter. She was a gift in the lives of many and I am so happy to say that she was came into my life and I will remember her with great love and admiration.

I had many sleepovers at the Millett household. I always loved going there. It was fun with my cousins. And Sylvia was the best Baker. In Later years whenever I saw Aunt Sylvia, she would say come over to my car I have something for you. And in her car she always pulled out a treasure for me. So thoughtful. Loved her....xo
