Sylvia Myatt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center on Dec. 4, 2025.
On November 20, 2025, Sylvia A. Myatt peacefully passed away at age 86.

Sylvia was born on May 20, 1939, to John and Vera (Anderson) Myatt in Poteau, Oklahoma. She received her B.S. Degree in Business Education from Oklahoma College for Women in 1961.

Immediately following graduation, she began her career at Pan American Petroleum/Amoco Production Company/B. P. Amoco, aka BP. Sylvia retired from being a human resources representative in May 1989 from the BP Research Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her pleasant, never-met-a-stranger attitude served her well in her HR work.

Shortly after retirement, Sylvia and her life partner, Sheila Whitley, travelled extensively for 20+ years. Their first trips were with travel groups visiting various places in the USA. They soon moved on to ocean cruises and European River Cruises. Besides travel, one of Sylvia's passions was playing bridge or any kind of card or table games her friends wanted to play. She even had a group of friends at work who played bridge during their lunch break. Sylvia was a hospital volunteer who was as serious about her volunteering as she was about her professional work. She spent several years at Tulsa's St. Francis Hospital working the desk in the surgery-family waiting room. The dry and pleasant (sans June through September) climate of Arizona beckoned to Sylvia and Sheila. They moved from Tulsa to the Phoenix area in 2000 and have remained in Sun City West, a Del Webb retirement community.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother, Vera, and her father, John. She is survived by three cousins, her partner, Sheila, and several close friends who are like siblings to her.

No memorial service is planned. Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Tulsa, OK or The Alzheimer's Association.
