Sylvia Soehle Schindler, 87, beloved wife of the late Earl F. Schindler for 49 years, peacefully passed away on July 27, 2025 at Covenant Living of Cromwell. Born in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Wolfram and Dell (Fearing) Soehle, she was a resident of Newington, CT for many years before she and Earl moved to Kensington, CT in 1977.
Her parents instilled in Sylvia and her late brother, John, a deep appreciation of and respect for nature. She and her family (and their English setter, Specs) spent many hours exploring the woods adjacent to their home in Newington. Summer vacations were spent visiting relatives and enjoying the Outer Banks of NC.
After graduating in 1959 with a BA in Biology from Bates College, Lewiston, NE, Sylvia was an Engineering Assistant at UARL (now United Technologies) in East Hartford, CT, where she worked on a variety of research projects, including early studies in the search for superconducting materials.
In 1972, Sylvia graduated from the University of Connecticut with an MS in Zoology, with an emphasis on Ecology and Conservation. She worked in energy conservation and resource recycling projects during years as a Planning Analyst with the State of Connecticut.
She was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, the Berlin Land Trust, Inc., the Greater New Britain Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park. Sylvia was a life time member of the Newington Ski Club where she met Earl.
Sylvia was blessed with wonderful family and friends, whom she very much enjoyed and appreciated. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Earl, her brother John E, Soehle (wife Maureen) of Cape Canaveral, FL, and her sister-in-law Ruth Schmidt (husband Norman) of Hernando, FL. Sylvia left behind, her dear niece Diane Gibson (husband Bob) of Wilmington, NC, her dear nephew John S. Soehle (wife Tracy) of West Newton, MA, and her nephews Paul Schmidt (wife Anmarie) of Georgetown, TX, John Schmidt (wife Shelly) of Orlando, FL and Mark Schmidt of Oakland Park, FL. She also leaves her dear grandnieces and nephews, Taylor Gibson, Robby Gibson, Hayley Soehle, Andrew Soehle, Carly Schmidt and David Schmidt.
