Sylvia Shaw Obituary
Sylvia, whose love and spirit touched everyone she met. As a cherished daughter of William and Bessie, she helped raise her siblings, and as a sister, she supported her brothers as they entered various branches of the Armed Services. All five brothers earned their mother, Bessie, the title of Gold Star Mother here in the Eagle Nest District. Sylvia brought laughter and support throughout life's challenges. As a mother and grandmother, she filled her family's lives with kindness, wisdom, and unconditional love, passing on traditions and warmth. Sylvia was deeply connected to her heritage, a proud member of Lipps Camp (Pute Tiospaye) and a devoted language speaker. Her involvement with the Eagle Nest Elderly Program showcased her commitment to community, where she uplifted spirits and fostered connections. Her life exemplified love, tradition, and service; making everyone feel valued. Though we will miss her, Sylvia's legacy lives on in the language she spoke and the love she shared. Rest peacefully Sylvia, your spirit will echo in our hearts forever.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Louis Shaw; grandchildren, Kieara Latoya and Dayton; brother, Denver Pumpkin Seed; and numerous nieces, nephews, & grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, William Pumpkin Seed and Bessie Bertha (Lipp) Pumpkin Seed.; siblings, Leonard Yellow Elk, Sr., Lloyd, Duane, George, Arthur, Roselyn, Linda Marie, Stephen, Michael and Lauretta Pumpkin Seed.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Pumpkin Seed, Terrance Pumpkin Seed, Sylvan Pumpkin Seed, Richard Pumpkin Seed, Leonard Yellow Elk, Jr., George Dull Knife, Pete Richards, Jr., Daniel Dull Knife, and Kieara Pumpkin Seed.
Honorary pallbearers will be All Friends & Relatives.
Wake Services: One night wake service will start at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 5, 2025 at the TNT Center in Wanblee, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM.
Funeral Services: 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the TNT Center in Wanblee, SD
Officiating: Mother Michelle Dayton
Traditional Lakota Services: To Be Announced
Burial Services: Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery, Wanblee, SD
