Sylvia Felder Smith

Sylvia Felder Smith CHARLESTON - Sylvia Felder Smith, only child of Hazel Thompson Felder and Franklin Orville Felder, was born in Bowman, SC on Sunday, April 22, 1934, and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Sylvia was the beloved wife of Dr. Edwin "Buddy" Smith of Charleston, SC. Sylvia graduated from Branchville High School in the class of 1952 and from Columbia College in 1955 with a B.S. degree in Business Education. While at Columbia College, she was a member of the Columbia College Choir. Her working career was in teaching and in secretarial positions. She started her teaching career at Eau Claire High School in West Columbia, but returned to Columbia College as secretary to President R. Wright Spears for two years. After moving to Birmingham, Alabama, she held a secretarial position in the Oral Medicine Department at The University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where her husband attended school. After his graduation in 1962, they moved to Charleston, SC, where Dr. Smith established a dental practice. Sylvia returned to teaching in 1975 and taught at Bishop England High School and North Charleston High School, retiring in 1996. Sylvia was an active member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, member and pianist of the Lupo Sunday School Class, and a faithful member of the Chancel Choir for over 50 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many. She is survived by her sons, Dr. E. Terry Smith, Jr. and wife, Charlotte (Buffy) of Marion, SC; Bryan Felder Smith of Yonges Island, SC; and five grandchildren-Lauren Smith, Natalie Smith, Edwin T. Smith, III (T.J.), Weston Shea Smith, and Chad Lane (Liza); and two great-grandsons, Carson and Logan Lane. Her Graveside Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025 in Live Oak Memorial Gardens at 11:30 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
