Sylvia B. Yellow Thunder was born on December 7, 1934 in Ideal, SD to Louis Spotted Elk and Susie Forked Tail. Sylvia made her journey to the Spirit World on March 13, 2026 at the Avantara St. Cloud Nursing Home in
Rapid City, SD.
Sylvia is survived by her sons, Patrick Yellow Thunder and Thomas Yellow Thunder; daughter, Genevieve Chase In Sight-Ribitsch; daughter-in-law, Charlette Frogg; nephews, Dave Kelly, Kevin & Forrest Sits Poor; grandchildren, Lynette DuBois, Eric DuBois, Gentry (Mykala) Ribitsch, Natasha (Sean) Ballentine, Tesse (Amos) Two Bulls, Riva Red Feather, Alisha Yellow Thunder, Jim Yellow Thunder, Jr., Christopher Yellow Thunder, Jaymie Yellow Thunder, Joseph Yellow Thunder, and Kimberly Yellow Thunder; great grandchildren, Mariah DuBois, Nathaniel DuBois, Kaylynn Two Bulls, Talano War Bonnet, Genriel Ribitsch, Laniah Ribitsch, Tashina Hard Heart, Jarrian Ribitsch, Shaylene Yellow Thunder, Athena Yellow Thunder, Katrina Yellow Thunder, William Chase In Sight-Tymes, Joseph Two Bulls, Chyeann Allbee, Chavez Little, Jodessa Yellow Thunder, Leona Yellow Thunder, Bradley Yellow Thunder, Ruben Yellow Thunder, Angel Ballentine, Dionte Ballentine, Kimimila Ballentine, Tuki Lone Elk, Tasina Lone Elk, Chris Lone Elk, Jr., Chauntae Lone Elk, and McGavyne Lone Elk; numerous great-great grandchildren; and her grand dogs, Fynn, Luna, Honey, & Harley.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her spouse, Winfred Yellow Thunder, Sr.; one infant daughter; sons, Winfred Yellow Thunder, Jr., Jim Yellow Thunder, Sr., Ruben Yellow Thunder, Sr., Orville Yellow Thunder, and Curtis Yellow Thunder; sister, Mildred Provencial; sister-in-law, Bernice (Sits Poor) Chase In Sight; brother-in-law, Gus Chase In Sight; nephews, Joseph Garreaux and Milo Sits Poor; grandchildren, Carmelita Yellow Thunder, Ruben Yellow Thunder, Jr., Sherilyn Brown Eyes, Winona Kaquatosh, Cody Yellow Thunder, and Ruben Yellow Thunder III; and her cat, Tiger.
Pallbearers will be Nathaniel DuBois, Eric DuBois, Gentry Ribitsch, Chauntae Lone Elk, William Chase In Sight, Joseph Two Bulls, Chris Yellow Thunder, Jayme Yellow Thunder, Angel Ballantine, and Dionte Ballantine.
