Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Fr. Kevin Magner as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
Sylvin Peter Gillitzer was born June 23, 1932, in Collegeville Township, Minnesota to James and Appolonia (Lardy) Gillitzer. Sy grew up in the St. Cloud area and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. Following his graduation, Sy worked at Erickson's gas station before being drafted. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On February 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Joyce A. Aigner at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. For over 42 years, Sy worked for Williams Steel and Hardware in Minneapolis. They lived in the Minneapolis area before eventually building their home on Bass Lake, near Annandale. They also wintered in Florida for 22 years, following their retirements. Sy enjoyed playing cribbage and other card games and doing puzzles. He relished the opportunity to spend time on his beloved Bass Lake, whether it be fishing or simply going for a boat ride with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Roxane (Neil) Busacker of Buffalo; sons, Jim (Cathleen) of Ocala, FL, Mike (Jayne) of Olathe, KS, and Mark of South Haven; siblings, Donna Nelson of Burnsville, and Eileen Amsden of Palm Coast Florida; grandchildren, David, Kristin, Grace, and RJ; 2 great-grandsons, Avery and Graham; and many nieces and nephews. Sy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce; and sister, Marjorie Stuhr.
Sy's children will serve as urn bearers. St. Ignatius Music Ministry will provide music for the service. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
