Sylvio A. Morais, 75, a longtime resident of
Alfred, Maine, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 after living with cancer for several years, facing it with admirable strength and courage. The family finds comfort in knowing he is once again with the love of his life, whom he missed dearly.
Sylvio was born on November 17, 1950 in
Augusta, Maine to the late Aimes W. and Bernice (Weaver) Morais. In December of 1973, Sylvio married the love of his life, Linda E. Morais and together they built a family, raising her two sons and later welcoming two boys of their own.
In his early years, Sylvio worked alongside his brother and father at the Brothers of Notre Dame in
Alfred, Maine helping tend to the cows. He then went on to Lavalley Lumber where he worked in the sawmill for 42 years, eventually retiring in 2012. A great accomplishment of his was purchasing land and building the family home. After working a full day at the mill, Sylvio would return to Stone Road to work on the house. It took him a whole year but in 1978, the home was complete and provided the foundation for him to raise his family.
Sylvio built a life centered around family and friendship. He found joy in the simple moments: spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, making memories, and creating laughter. He was known for his fun-loving, carefree nature and he brought positivity to everyone around him. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time in the woods with family. Sylvio will also be remembered for his gardening. Cultivating large vegetable gardens and sharing its harvests with everyone. A passion he continued on with up until the end, and for his generosity - he was always willing to lend a hand while never asking for anything in return.
Sylvio relocated to Sebring, Florida in the Spring of 2025. In his brief time there he settled in quickly and seamlessly. He enjoyed fishing, cruising around on his golfcart listening to tunes, meeting new people, and spoiling friends and family. He earned the nickname "the baking bandit" as he was known for making his rounds throughout the neighborhood quietly leaving packages of sweet treats he had baked on the doorsteps of family and neighbors. The strong friendships he formed in such a short amount of time are a true testament to the type of person Sylvio was.
He will be deeply missed by his sons, Jeremy (Rebecca) Morais of Sebring, Florida, Nicholas (JamieLee) of Sanford, Maine, Thomas (Nancy) Lovejoy of Kennebunk, Maine and Keith (Audrey) Lovejoy of Buxton, Maine. Grandchildren Adam, Travis, Thomas, Michelle, Haley, Casey and Dawson. Great grandchildren Alivia, Ava, Layla, Morgan, Calvin and Sadie. His sisters Bernice and Lila, and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Sylvio was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters Amy and Lorraine, and brother Aimes.
Above all, Sylvio loved life and loved his family and friends. He did not want them to mourn him, but instead to celebrate life, share memories, and most of all – to laugh. His final wishes were to have a party. The family will honor this request with a celebration in his hometown of
Alfred, Maine at a date to be later determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you pay a small tribute to Sylvio by showing an act of kindness: a thoughtful gesture to a neighbor – perhaps leaving fresh baked goodies or a basket of flowers on their doorstep, give a smile to a stranger, make someone laugh and most of all to love and appreciate the life you are in and those you hold dear.
