Synthia Lea Hunter, lovingly known as Sindy or Grandma Sindy, passed away on October 4, 2024, at the age of 69 in Sun City, Arizona. She was born on August 23, 1955, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the beloved daughter of Beverly Alfson and Henry Soul. From an early age, Sindy displayed a compassionate heart and a giving nature.
Sindy excelled academically during high school, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She was passionate about dance, performing with her school’s dance team, the Spartanettes, and continued dancing while attending Inver Grove Heights Junior College. Her love for business blossomed early, beginning her career at H&R Block at just 17, preparing taxes—a skill she would continue to use throughout her life.
Sindy’s early experiences in business, combined with her love for helping others, laid the foundation for a successful career. She transitioned from banking into the roles of accounting controller and administrative assistant at Aspen Furniture, where she developed close bonds with her colleagues, many of whom became long-term friends she regarded as family.
Sindy shared nearly 48 years of marriage with her husband, Merrill, in a partnership filled with love and adventure. They spent many weekends camping and boating together. Her love for her family was unwavering—she was a devoted mother, aunt, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment with them. Whether it was celebrating special occasions or enjoying everyday moments, Sindy ensured her family and friends always felt loved and valued.
Sindy is survived by her husband, Merrill Hunter; her loving daughter, Aleesha Greene; her grandchildren, Austin, Ava, and Michael; her stepchildren, Tab, Ty, Travis, and Tammy Hunter; and her step-grandchildren, Brooke, Derek, Shane, Jacob and Kaitlynn. She is also survived by her sister, Sherry Joseph, her five nieces and nephews, six great-nieces and nephews, and countless friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and generosity.
A celebration of Sindy’s life will be held at Menke Funeral Home on October 23, 2024. The viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. She will then be laid to rest at Sunland Memorial Park.
