Tamara Kulak was born on August 16, 1937, in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, where she endured the turbulence of World War II in her earliest years. After the war, she and her parents, Eudokia and Jurij Zubacziw, moved to a displaced persons camp in Mittenwald, Germany. Tamara remained in Mittenwald until she was thirteen years old. On January 3, 1951, Tamara and her parents boarded the General S.D. Sturgis in Bremerhaven, Germany and embarked on a winter voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, arriving in New York on January 16, 1951. The family then moved to the Detroit area, where Tamara graduated from Copernicus High School in Hamtramck, Michigan and soon after married Mykola Kulak (later divorced).

Tamara was the pillar of her family. She was the proud mother of three children, Nadia Musz (Victor Musz), Alexander Kulak (Kristen Kulak), and Mark Kulak (Krisana Kulak). She was a loving and spirited grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Nicholas Kulak, Edward Musz, Lisa Musz (Ryan Bradley), Elena Musz (William Cox), Mitchell Kulak, Emily VanCampen (Joshua VanCampen), Quinton Kulak, Olivia Kulak, and Grace Kulak. She most recently welcomed and embraced her great-grandchildren Madeline and Calder Bradley.

Tamara was filled with beauty and an abundance of character. She loved a great time with family and friends filled with music, dancing, and laughter. Her home was filled with craft projects, found gems, surprises for her grandchildren, and her family's favorite foods-including, of course, her handmade varenyky. She had a passion for gardening, flowers, and endless beautification projects. As much as Tamara loved hosting her family for any occasion (or no occasion in particular), she also loved her adventures. Tamara greatly enjoyed playing boardgames and competing at costumer parties, where she was always the best dressed and truly the "Belle of the Ball." While she loved all things colorful, her favorite combination was yellow and blue. Tamara was unwaveringly proud of her Ukrainian heritage and a beloved fixture of the Ukrainian community. She will be dearly missed but her character, values, and flair will be imprinted upon her family forever.

The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11am. Friends may visit beginning at 10am. Committal services will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Detroit.
