Tamera "Tammy" Johnson

Tamera Kay (Heffner) Johnson, 64, of Mancelona, MI, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, surrounded by her family. 

Tammy was born on October 26, 1960, to Duane and Betty Lou (Keck) Heffner in Flint, MI. Tammy grew up in Burton, MI and graduated from Bendle High School in 1978. Tammy moved to Oklahoma when she was 21 years old, and it was there where she met and eventually married her husband of 40 years, Shannon Johnson. After living in Oklahoma for ten years, Tammy and her family relocated to Mancelona, MI. 

Tammy worked many different jobs through the years, including being a manager of the Mancelona McDonald’s for 16 years, where she hired a great number of the town’s residents. She eventually left her job at McDonald’s to be a caretaker for her mother. 

Tammy was a collector of many things, especially Coca-Cola themed items. She loved to travel with her family, going on countless trips to Oklahoma and Texas, among other places. She was also an avid lover of chocolate, a passion that she passed down to her grandchildren. Most of all, Tammy loved and adored her family. 

Tammy never missed an opportunity to help someone in need. She provided shelter, guidance, and love to countless children and young adults over the years, many of whom she later regarded as family. 

Those left to cherish Tammy’s memory are her husband of 40 years, Shannon Johnson, her children, Logan (Micayla) Johnson, Kyle Johnson (Brooke Krassa), and Kaylee (Skyler) Courter, her grandchildren, Beau Courter, Alayah Johnson, and Reece Johnson, her sister, Susan (Keith) Franklin, her brothers, Steven (Gina) Heffner and Todd (Marci) Heffner, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and close friends. 

Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Betty Heffner. 

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, November 16, starting at 1:00 PM at Mortensen Funeral Home in Mancelona MI, located at 205 W. State Street, until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 PM. Minister Nick Franklin, Tammy’s nephew, will be officiating.  For those unable to attend in person, Tammy's service will be livestreamed via the following link:
