Tara Schumacker Obituary

Tara Marie Schumacker

Tara Marie Schumacker, age 35, passed away as a result of a car accident on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born on March 8, 1990, in Maplewood, Minn., the daughter of Gary and Domonique (Nicky Gornick) Schumacker.

Tara was employed by the Comfort Inn in Mt.Iron, as a desk clerk, and attended college at the MN North College (Mesabi) in Virginia.

During her school years, Tara excelled academically, especially in writing. At the ages of ten and eleven, her poems were published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans. She also played volleyball for St.Pius X Catholic School in Rochester and had a killer serve.

Tara enjoyed cooking and had a real knack for making delicious meals out of anything she had in the kitchen. She loved the elderly and enjoyed working with them whenever she could.

She was very close with her grandfather Martin. He would let her drive his truck on the junction road before she was five, and she loved working in his vegetable garden with him and shadowed him wherever he went. He even let her paint his fingernails. She had a very special bond with her little sister Brianna.

Tara was a person whose capacity to care for others was expansive. She enjoyed helping others and greatly treasured the friendships she made along the way. She possessed a great sense of humor and always found a way to make people laugh.

She is survived by parents: Gary Schumacker and Domonique (Nicky Gornick) Schumacker; Sisters: Shari Schumacker and Brianna Schumacker; Children: Leigha Schumacker, Jayden Owens, Lai'Ahna Owens, and Kinsley Schumacker; alongside numerous members of the extended family and friends.

Tara was preceded in death by grandparents: Martin and Miriam Gornick, Gary Lawrence, and Lynn Marlene Schumacker; Uncle: Franklin Gornick; Uncle/Godfather: Gerald Hendrickson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 15, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tower. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Father Brandon Moravitz, celebrant.
