Our hearts are heavy as we share the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mrs Tara Rao Vangury. She left our world peacefully at the age of 85.

Mom was born in Anakapalli, India in March 1940. She was a brilliant student who earned her Masters degree in Chemistry at the young age of 20. She married our dad Dr V Chalapati Rao and continued to work as a college professor. Our family eventually moved to the US in 1980, where she worked as a chemist, alongside our father in the Virology department, at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

With our father's unexpected passing in 1986, our mom was suddenly left with the tremendous task of raising four daughters, solo as a young widow, as she courageously chose to remain in the US for our education.

Over the years, mom passionately nurtured a large variety of interests. She was an amazing cook, and loved tending to her garden which in any given year, contained 50-70 plants. She taught herself how to organically fertilize them perfectly to harvest rare fruits and flowers like delicious sitafal and striking brahmakamalam (Queen of the Night).

She was an adventurous spirit who also taught herself about the stock market and loved to make daily trades. Her mornings began diligently with her garden & CNBC! Her love of traveling took her from Alaska and Lake Louise and all through the Caribbean. Of course we cannot ignore her longtime love… Las Vegas!

But above all, she was happiest when surrounded by her family. Her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her love for them was boundless. She loved to cook for them and share her garden harvests with them.

She taught us strength by example, grace through kindness, and courage by the way she faced life's hardest battles with hope and determination. She loved fiercely, selflessly, and unconditionally.

We will miss her laughter, her wisdom, and her endless stories-but most of all, we will miss the way she made each of us feel so very deeply & unconditionally loved.

She is survived by her four daughters Nagasri, Anuradha, Sujata, and Hema; her three sons-in-law Ryan, William and Jeff; her six grandchildren Tara (and husband Mark ), David (and wife Kaylee), Preston (and wife Mary), Christopher, Serena and Alyssa.

Our mom now joins her husband Dr V Chalapati Rao, her parents and several siblings in eternal peace.

Her spirit lives on in the garden she planted, the journeys she inspired, and the family she cherished and loved unconditionally.

A farewell for our mom will be held on Saturday, September 13,

9am-12pm.
