Tassie Lee (Seymour) Burk, 59, of Safford, left this earth on Saturday October 11th 2025 after a short, unexpected illness. She passed peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. Tassie was born on March 16th, 1966 in Windsor, Missouri to Eddie Lee Seymour and Gloria Dale (Meadows) Seymour. Tassie was the third of five children in the family.
Tassie lived in many places in her early life due to her dad working the rotating crop seasons. The family finally settled back in the family home of Cortez, Colorado where Tassie came to call home. Tassie had many members of a large extended family in the area. She enjoyed spending time with her grandparents and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins. She started her own family at an early age and came to be a single parent of her three children. Tassie worked hard raising and providing for her family. She was always there for her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and any other family members that needed her help or guidance. She loved watching her grandchildren grow and was always ready to spend time with them. She enjoyed anything outdoors and spent lots of time in the mountains camping, hunting and fishing. When she caught her first large catfish she was hooked on catfishing from then on and passed that down to her kids and grandkids. She made frequent trips back to Cortez after moving away to see and spend time with family.
Tassie met her future husband David in 2006 and moved to Silver City, New Mexico to continue their growing love for each other. They were joined in marriage on March 17th, 2009 in the church that David's great grandfather and grandfather built on Chandler family land in Santa Clara, New Mexico. They came to Safford in the spring of 2010 when David started working in the mine. Tassie worked several jobs decorating cakes before taking an early retirement to enjoy her many hobbies. She then worked to have a warm and comfortable home for her family. Tassie was a woman of many talents. She taught herself to paint, she continued to crochet, and make all the beautifully decorated cakes for any family function. She had a love for crafting of many types and created numerous decorations for all occasions, she worked with everything from wood to yarn. Tassie began quilting and made several beautiful quilts in the last few years of her life.
Tassie also enjoyed working outside to make her home beautiful inside and out. She loved planting flowers every year and also tending her rose bushes. She enlisted the help of her husband to build special flower beds and plant many different colors of roses. She was not afraid of getting dirty and always worked to make sure her flowers were numerous and prolific. She decided to plant a few fruit trees and went from a few in the yard to an orchard covering most of the land in view from the front porch. Tassie would can and preserve all she could from her harvest. She made jellies, juices, preserves and sometimes just canned fruit to enjoy and share.
Tassie always had a deep love for animals. She spoiled her dogs because she had so much love to give. She also had cats, chickens and for a few years some pigs. Tassie was never afraid of a challenge when it came to whatever she decided to try. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father Eddie Seymour, her step-father David Loyd, her brother Cody Seymour, her step-daughters Kelsey Burk, and Amberley Burk-Rohweder, a very special niece Kiley Trevino-Duran, and her mother-in-law "Granny" Burdette Trevino.
She is survived by her mother Gloria Loyd, her husband David Burk, her sons Joshua Seymour (Alysa) and Chris Bryan (Christa), her daughter Shelby, and her step-daughters Rachel Ogden (Sean), and Jessica Holderby (Andrew). Her sisters Julie Yonker (Tom), Dianna Taft (Walt), and Deanna Neves (Manny). Eleven grandchildren, Braiden and Journey Seymour; Carter and Layla Rohweder; Isabelle Bryan; Riley, Joel, and Dana Ogden; and Annalyse, Samantha "Sammie", and Bailey Holderby.
There will be a private family burial at a later date.
