Taylor "Tay" Austin Cox passed away Friday, October 31, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and the special bond he shared with his family and friends.
Tay loved the outdoors. Whether it was fishing, camping with his dad around a crackling campfire, or simply exploring the world around him. He was well known for riding his bright yellow electric bike everywhere he went, so much so that even the local police recognized him by it.
He had a heart of gold. Though he could be shy at first due to Asperger's, once Tay felt comfortable, his kind nature shined through. He would do anything for the people he cared about. His gentle spirit and humor touched everyone who knew him.
Tay's world was filled with life-literally. He loved aquariums and filled his home with them, often joking, "I'll find a corner," whenever he wanted to add another tank. His fascination led to a shared passion with his dad, attending AQUASHELLA and Reefapalooza aquarium conventions together every year. For his dad's birthday, Tay would proudly buy the tickets and even give him a "fish allowance." Those moments, more than any gifts, meant the world to them both.
From a young age, Tay had traditions that showed his thoughtfulness. Every year on his father's birthday, he made sure there was a cookie cake, a tradition that began with his grandmother "Mimi" and one he carried on himself. He loved visiting Seaworld with Mimi and could never get enough of roller coasters or marine life.
At home, Tay helped his dad with projects, spent time gaming on his Xbox (especially Minecraft and Call of Duty), and adored his pets, dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, and of course, fish. He even found his first rabbit while taking out the trash and proudly turned it into a beloved family pet.
Tay valued doing things the right way. He once reminded his dad, during an early driving lesson, "Father, I'm not old enough! It's illegal!"-a perfect example of his honesty and good heart. He also had a few favorites that never changed: chocolate milk, sweet tea, and his family.
Tay worked at several places he was proud of, including Brigdawgs Pet Store in Port St. John, where he stayed in touch with the owners; Winn-Dixie, where he made many friends, and most recently, Pet Supermarket, a job he absolutely loved. He enjoyed caring for the animals, sharing stories about work, and bringing home treats for his pets.
He is survived by his parents, Rob and Elizabeth Cox; his siblings, Erick Cruz and Elvin Alexander; his grandmother, Kathy Cox; his aunt, Carrie Cox; and his cousin, Tyler Cox.
Tay will be remembered for his gentle nature, his humor, his love for animals and adventure, and the light he brought to every corner of his world.
