Ted Allen Carter, age 70, of Baxley passed away Monday, February10, 2025 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Ted was born on Red Oak Road in Appling County to the late Walter Carter and the late Luna Kimberly Carter. He worked as a heavy equipment operator most of his life, and in his later years he went to work for a landscape company. Ted moved to Brandon, FL when he was 8 but always thought of Baxley as home. He started spending his summers in Baxley, staying with his grandparents, Willis and Ethel (Nail) Carter, and grandmother, Alyne Kimberly, where he worked in tobacco and learned how to drive a tractor. Ted was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, FL where he served as deacon until moving back to Baxley in 2023 and joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He was a devoted Christian and was proud of it. Ted was the happiest when he was helping at the church and had a strong work ethic and took great pride in working with his hands. Mr. Carter also loved hunting, riding buggies, the tractor or his motorcycle. He never met a stranger, and if anyone ever needed help all they had to do was mention it and he was there.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cassandra “Cassi” Carter and his sister, Teresa C. Williams.
Survivors include his daughter, Jesika Munford (Dee) of Garner, NC; son, Justin Carter of Riverview, FL; three grandchildren Kelsey, Micah and Brady; brothers, Billy, Tommy, and Steve Carter; sister, Miriam Carter all of Baxley; niece, Monica (Dustin) Knisley of Lutz, FL; nephew, Will Carter of Baxley and great nephew, Maverick. Two aunts and several cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday February 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 9565 Blackshear Hwy. Baxley, Georgia 31513 with Rev. Justin McLellan, Rev. Ron Ross, and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
