Funeral services for Ted Fried, age 82, longtime Meadow farmer and rancher, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Bentley Memorial Building in Bison. Pastor Phil Hahn and Pastor Loyd Veal will officiate with burial in the Bison Cemetery. Special music will be provided by Cora Fried, Phil and Vicki Hahn, Peggy Veal, and Janet LaDue. Serving as casketbearers are Tom Fried, Tracy Wolff, Gary Hoff, Steve Fried, Wayne Bohnet, Bob Jackson, David Plocek, and Mike Fried. All of Ted's grandchildren and great grandchildren are considered honorary bearers. The ushers are Kent LaDue and Raymond Akers. THEODORE FRIED 'Ted' was born December 30, 1926 at Shadehill, SD. He was one of twelve children born to Christopher and Emilia (Ackerman) Fried. He grew up on the family farm north of Bison and attended Hooker School through the eighth grade. Ted farmed and ranched with his father north of Bison. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Chase on September 17, 1950 at Grace Baptist Church in Bison. Ted and Mary Ellen farmed and ranched with his brother and sister-in-law, Herb and Donna on the family farm. In 1957, Ted and Mary Ellen moved to Meadow where they have resided since. To this union were born six children, Greg, Ron, EmiLou, Duane, Delbert, and Kendra. Ted especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Ted and Mary Ellen traveled to numerous states and as far as Japan, Alaska, and Germany. Ted always made sure he attended all the activities of his children and grandchildren, especially their sporting events. Ted's favorite pastimes were traveling, reading, visiting friends and playing board games. During the holidays, he always made caramel corn and apple pies to share with his family and friends. Ted was diagnosed with stage IV melanoma in December of 2007, which eventually took his life on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger. Ted was cared for at home by his loving family and special friends until the morning of his passing. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Bison where he served as a deacon, treasurer, and trustee. Ted also served on the ASCS Committee for nine years. Ted will be remembered by those close to him for his Love for his Lord, his kindness and generosity. Keeping him in their fondest memories are his wife, Mary Ellen Fried, Meadow, SD; 4 sons and 4 daughters-in-law, Greg and Peggy Fried, Lodgepole, SD; Ron and Joyce Fried, Kodiak, AK; Duane and Dawn Fried, Hettinger, ND; Del and Pam Fried, Volga, SD; 2 daughters and 1 son-in-law, EmiLou Ebarle, Okinawa, Japan; Kendra and Tim McIntyre, Webster, SD; 15 grandchildren, Chris and his wife Mary Fried, Mobridge, SD; Teresa and her husband Dan Sherrill, Wheatland, WY; Sgt. Scott Fried, Ft. Campbell, KY; Katie Fried, Kodiak, AK; Sara Jo Fried, Wilmington, NC; Lucas Fried, Rapid City, SD; Jenni Fried, and Levi Fried, both of Kodiak, AK; Mark Ebarle, Okinawa, Japan; Nicholas Fried and his wife Kate, Branson, MO; Larissa and her husband Leif Anderson, Hettinger, ND; Micaela Fried, St. Paul, MN; Michael Fried and fianc' Tera Teske, Spearfish, SD; Kellee and her husband Jon Morgan, Lovell, WY; Katie and her husband Sgt Ray Dworshak, Grafenwoehr, Germany; 7 great grandchildren, Noah, Ellie, Simon, and Peter Fried; Abby and Sam Sherrill; Owen Anderson; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Helen Fried, Mott, ND; Bert and Mildred Fried, Sturgis, SD; Herb and Donna Fried, Shadehill, SD; 3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Bertha Cooper, Bison, SD; Lillian and Bob Bohnet, Bismarck, ND; Ruth and Ken Friez, Glendale, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant brothers; 3 sisters, Christine Fried, Dorothy Plocek, and Betty Hoff. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. The Fried Family will be at the visitation on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:30pm at the Bentley Memorial Building in Bison. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
