Ted "Redman" Slaughter, Sr., 88, of Elon, died on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Born in Person County, he was the son of the late Leamon Bradsher Slaughter and Candance Currin Slaughter. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Brooks and one granddaughter, Tina Wade Nisewonder. Mr. Slaughter was a member of Old Lea Bethel Baptist Church.
Ted enjoyed playing football in his earlier years and was an avid hunter throughout his lifetime. Mr. Slaughter was a founding member and charter member of both Hyco and Bushy Fork Hunting Clubs. He was a truck driver for many years and later spent most of his career on a shutdown crew worker at power plant companies.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Cleo Elizabeth Briggs Slaughter of the home; four children: Vivian Lou Slaughter Wade of Burlington, Ted Slaughter, Jr. (Susan) of Roxboro, Bruce Sterling Slaughter (Dana) of Burlington and Thomas "Tommy" Mark Brosnan, Jr. of Burlington; two brothers: Tera Slaughter of Danville, VA and L.D. Slaughter of Graham; one sister, Rosa Brann of Roxboro; two grandchildren: Brandon Ted Slaughter and Drake Sterling Slaughter (Samantha); one great-granddaughter, Samantha Nisewonder Wright; one great-great grandson, Hunter Wright.
Memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Old Lea Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Rorrer and the Rev. Alan Bottoms officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (1-2 PM).
