Ramon Wilmot Barrett, Jr., affectionately known as "Teddy," age 71, passed away peacefully at home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Teddy was born on April 18, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Ramon Barrett Sr. and Phyllis Barrett. An avid lover of science, he attended the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School in New York and graduated from the Grove School of Engineering at the City College of New York, earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Teddy began his career as an engineer in the chemical industry, where he worked for 35 years. Despite his professional success, he dreamed of building generational wealth for his family through business ownership. With that goal in mind, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to deepen his business knowledge.
During his time in Philadelphia, Teddy recognized the unrealized potential of West Philly and envisioned creating a community of affordable luxury housing. He began buying and renting apartments and houses, eventually expanding into renovating and flipping properties. At its peak, his real estate portfolio included 30+ properties. Through hard work and determination, Teddy fulfilled his dream of building a successful small business - and along the way, he helped countless people achieve their own dreams of homeownership.
Beyond his professional achievements, Teddy had a diverse set of interests. He loved spending summer afternoons at the beach in Ocean City with his family. He was an avid golfer who never missed a tee time with Ralph and his friends. He also had a green thumb and took great pride in having the best lawn in the neighborhood.
In 1975, Teddy married his soulmate, Kendra Lynn Smith, in New York. Together they shared 50 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership. Teddy was a devoted husband and a proud father to Dana, Diana, and Alysha.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kendra; his daughters, Dana (Erik), Diana (Luke), and Alysha; his goddaughter, Tracy; his adored grandchildren and grandniece - Olivia, Luca, Ava, and Nora - who were the pride and joy of his life; his mother, Phyllis; his sisters, Karen (Delroy) and Dr. Barbara (Paul); his brother, Hugh (Lucy); and Aunt Clara, Maxine, and John.
He is also remembered with love by Malika, Tara, Cameron, Mustafa, Glenn (Anne), Danielle, Genene, Daejaun, Lauren, Jeanette, Melanie (Jared), Stephanie, Dr. Joanna (Terrence), Ian, Jonathan, Ivy, and Sanai, along with a host of cousins and friends.
Teddy will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, quick wit, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him. His legacy of love, integrity, and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
