Tena Jean (Hay) Byrd, aged 75, peacefully passed away on November 13, 2025, to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. Born on May 18, 1950, she was the daughter of Charles and Elaine (Soules) Hay. Tena was a proud graduate of Olivet High School and furthered her education at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Throughout her career, she served in various capacities within the state government, retiring in 2014 after many years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Sarah Byrd, and her son, Christian Byrd. Tena also leaves behind her sisters, Jewell Potter, Kaye (Bill) Pyke, and Vicky Soules, as well as her brothers, Dennis (Mary) Hay and John Hay. Her family includes several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Tena found joy in spending quality time with her family and friends, often joining them for lunch. She loved tending to her yard and was passionate about caring for her dogs and cat, which brought her great happiness and comfort.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Kent Byrd, and her parents. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm. The service will be held at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Cremation Preneed Care, located at 105 Capital Ave NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to: Leila Arboretum Society, 928 W. Michigan Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49037.
