Terence Michael Patrick Devine passed to Heaven peacefully in his sleep at 4am on July 21, 2025. Born in George Washington Hospital, DC January 17, 1952 and raised in Bethesda, MD until Jr. High in California.
Preceded in death by his Father William John (Jack) Devine, Mother Rita Marie Kiernan Devine and eldest brother William John (Johnny) Devine Jr. and Robert (Bobby) Oppelt. Terry is survived by our family Patriarch brother Brian Kiernan James Devine, sister Rita Marie Devine Grace (Benjamin), sister Ann Devine Burns (Vince), nephews and nieces: Brian Kiernan Devine Jr, Brooke Devine, Jack Devine (Jenn), Tyler Devine Morocco (Matthew), Liam (Haley) Devine, Julianna Devine, Angela Grace White (Aaron), Gregory Devine Grace, Mario Grace (Janet), Stefano Grace (Maiken), and many Siblings' Grandchildren, extended family Patricia (Patti) Oppelt, Katherine (Kitty) Oppelt, dear faithful friend Marla Hurtado who took Terry to Church on Sundays. Terry is known as a funny loving brother and Uncle of many, who crawled around on the floor playing with the young ones, teaching all to identify rocks, minerals, a caring teacher of special needs students, a ProLife hero, fighting for innocent unborn babies & youngest son who helped care for our Mother Rita Devine.
Our Mother was a top Realtor resulting in Terry & Rita Marie playing in open houses on weekends and holidays, waiting often in her Cadillac Convertible while she signed contracts. Before our Dad left, we spent a few summers at Martha Washington Hotel in Virginia Beach, catching red snapper & crabs prepared by the chef. Going to Devine reunions in Rockaway, NY was a highlight growing up with Devine family Aunts, Uncles, cousins swimming and boating and visiting our Kiernan amazing Grandparents and cousins. Terry enjoyed many summers at the beach swimming, fishing, crabbing and eating great Maryland Crabs in our Mom's Ocean City beachfront Condos. At the age of 7 to 13, Terry went to Leonard Hall Military Academy; his sister Rita Marie attended an adjacent boarding school, visiting him a lot. Our eldest brother Johnny hired Terry at a TOYS R US store in the San Fernando Valley where we lived with our Dad until he moved. Terry climbed peaks in Placerita Canyon, and swam in icy cold mountain lakes near our Dad's Saugus, CA home. At 15, our Mom took Terry and Rita Marie for her HS Graduation present to Ireland to Dublin Jury's Hotel to visit our Devine and Gouldsbury cousins and tour Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Italy & France with a Europe Railpass.
Terry graduated with honors from Cal State Northridge in Geology in 1974. Then went with a friend to backpack through Europe the summer of 1974. He moved to Alaska to work in the oil fields and oil pipeline to California. While in Alaska, He volunteered with Jacques Cousteau's ship in Alaska's deep sea exploration, classifying rocks and minerals and underwater deep sea diving photography. He hiked and camped in a few Indian Reservations in Arizona and New Mexico, sometimes joining Native American Pow Wows. Later in 1983 Terry and our Mom joined his sister Rita's French & Spanish students trip to France and Spain. In New Jersey in the 80's, Terry worked with Brian in retail; our family spent many Thanksgivings and Holidays together. Terry often visited our eldest brother Johnny in Dominican Republic in the 80's. Brian and Johnny kept Terry under their wings. Years later Terry enjoyed scuba diving, swimming with manatees in Satellite Beach, Florida and rescuing sea turtles eggs nests, helping them get safely to the ocean. Terry also accompanied our Mother in her 90s on a few Alaskan cruises. He spent time studying in 2008 to 2010 and student teaching special needs children, his passion to help children in need. In 2010, Terry won tickets on the radio to London for a Reunion Concert all costs paid for 2; he gratefully took our Mother at age 95 to front row seats, treated like loyalty! Every Rancho Santa Fé celebration of birthdays and anniversaries with Brian & Silvija meant the world to Terry, hearing his favorites like Stevie Nix! Terry celebrated with family: Bob, Kitty and Patti in Mexico in 2018, another adventure story in his travels. Attending Church with his friend Marla Hurtado, eating out, ice cream on Sundays, spending time in prayer, visits from Mario & family and visiting our Mother's grave were highlights in his later years of life.
