Teresa Martinez Leyva, age 72, was born Teresita De Jesus Martinez in El Paso, Texas on

December 18, 1952. Her mother and siblings lived in Smelter town growing up. She was the

4th eldest of 7 children. She was a loving mother of 3, grandmother of 6, and great

grandmother of 2. She will always be remembered among those who knew her well as "China",

which was a nickname given to her by her parents as a child. Our beloved mother was hard

working single mom for many years, she loved music, food and family gatherings for any

occasion. She enjoyed life to the best of her ability with the people who mattered most.

She raised her children and grandchildren with love and devotion, she was always there when

we needed her and always gave everything she had, even when she had very little to spare. As

a young woman our beloved mother worked in medical healthcare helping those in need of

service. She was a very empathetic and supportive person to anyone who needed it, her

personality was bold and beautiful. She lived a hard life that was filled with many hardships and

disappointments, but she never gave up and kept fighting. She was very strong willed and

determined to give her kids a better life than she was given. Our beloved mother was always

grateful for what she had and never wasted her time with disparities.

Teresa was diagnosed with cancer 5 months ago and fought valiantly. She passed away on

August 29, 2025, in the evening, at the Compassionate Care Center of Hospice of El Paso. She

will always be remembered and missed by all who knew her. May she rest in the hands of God

and those who preceded her in death. Until we meet again. We will always love you and carry

you in our hearts.
