Teresa Pyott (nee Mingle) was born on April 30th, 1929 and passed away peacefully on February 26th, 2024. She was preceeded in death by her loving husband Howard “Stretch” Pyott and her beloved son David. Loving mother of Richard Pyott (Roana), Susan Siropaides (Michael), Mary DiEuliis (Damian) and Chris Pyott (Barbara). Cherished sister of Frances Murray (late Daniel). Dear grandmother of Richard Pyott, Alison Gipson, Patricia Driggers, Christopher Pyott and Nicholas Pyott. Sadly missed by her eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Teresa loved and was devoted to the Bridesburg community. She was a lifetime member of All Saints parish, having served as lector and cantor. She had a beautiful voice; people always remarked how much they enjoyed hearing her sing. Many a wedding was blessed with her joyous Ave Maria.
In her younger years, she was involved with the Girl Scouts, and was honored to receive the Golden Girl Scout Award for 25 years of faithful leadership. Teresa also served as president of the Bridesburg Historical Society and co-authored a book on the neighborhood’s origin and development.
Music was a major part of her life, she enjoyed singing for children at schools and recreation centers. Teresa loved to perform folk songs and sea shanties with her friends. She retired from the University of Pennsylvania’s Folklore/Folklife department. She was an active member of the Philadelphia Folksong Society and volunteered for more than 50 years helping to program the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral Saturday, March 2, 2024 beginning at 9:30 am in the St. John Cantius Chapel, 4410 E. Thompson St., Phila., PA 19137. Funeral Mass will begin at 11 am Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
