Friday, January 13, 1956 – Sunday, November 30, 2025
Teresa Powell Spires, age 69, of Rhine Georgia, a cherished educator and loving family matriarch, passed away peacefully at her residence on November 30, 2025.She was born on January 13, 1956, in Alma, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held at Rockwell Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. Rev. Alvin Lewis will officiate.
Teresa is survived by her devoted husband, Preston Spires, Jr. of Rhine, and her loving son, Drew Spires (Sandy), of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Preston Spires IV (Morgan) of Knoxville, Tennessee; Tiffanie Hensley (Danny) of St. Augustine, Florida; Savannah Spires, Caroline Spires and James Spires of Atlanta, Georgia Grace Spires of Prairie Grove, Arkansas and Mia Spires of Johnson City, Tennessee; her great-grandchildren, Teagen Hensley and Tripp Hensley of St. Augustine, Florida, and Vivian Spires of Knoxville, Tennessee; her brothers, Archie Powell (Susan) of Middleburg, Florida, and Tim Dean (Denise) of Woodbury. Teresa was preceded in death by her beloved sons, John Preston Spires III and Eric Spires, her sister, Debbie Thompson, and her mother Wilma Davis Dean.
Teresa dedicated many years of her life to the service of others through her work at Wiregrass Technical College. As a member of the administration, specifically in student services, she touched the lives of countless students with her unwavering support and guidance.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Teresa found her greatest joy in the company of her beloved family. A matriarch in her own right, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, yet her spirit will continue to guide and inspire future generations.
