Terrance Lynn "Terry" Benson

Terrance Lynn "Terry" Benson, 75, of Freeburg, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 7, 1950, in Mexico, Missouri, the son of Charles and Gloria (Hunt) Benson.
Terry was a 1968 graduate of Fulton High School.
On October 19, 1970, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was in the Army Airborne Division with the rank of Private First Class, and special forces.
After serving in the military, he graduated from Northeast Missouri State University. In 1975, he graduated college with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.
On December 10, 1982, in Linn, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Peggy Edwards, who survives of the home.
Terry worked for the Jefferson City Police Department, as a traffic officer, sergeant of the detectives, part of the SWAT team, and was one of the Top polygraphists in Missouri.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his dogs, loved spending time with his family and especially loved giving his wife love letters.
Terry is survived by his wife, Peggy; four children, Jennifer Haller, Emily (Tyler) Weber, Terrance Jr. "Terry" (Laine) Benson and Heather Benson; seven grandchildren, Sam Haller, Trenton Weber, Trevor Weber, Terrance III (TJ) Benson, Wyatt Benson, Gabe Baltzell and Emma Baltzell; two great-grandchildren, Remy and Laynee; cousins, Patsy and Dwight Austin, Ronnie Redden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Gloria Benson, and his father-in-law Rudy Edwards.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dylan Schrader, PhD, officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Resurrection Catholic Mausoleum.
Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
