Terrell Sommer

Terrell "Terry" Sommer, 70, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026. Born on May 27, 1955, to Rose (Elias) and Eugene Sommer, Terry was a proud lifelong resident of Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Woodward High School in 1973 and went on to dedicate 38 years of faithful service to the Ohio Department of Transportation. Terry was a Route Marker which consisted of hanging signs, painting roads and posting detours. He was also responsible for organizing and setting up the snow plow drivers rodeo. Known for his strong work ethic, quiet reliability and dry sense of humor he retired in May 2025, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and many lasting friendships. Terry had a deep love for travel and leisure. Basking in the sunshine was one of his favorite pastimes. He especially enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas, Florida, Aruba, and Puerto Rico. He and his best friend, Denny Veirs, shared in countless memories filled with laughter and camaraderie. A lifelong member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. Terry's faith was central to his life. Each year on Holy Saturday night, he faithfully rang the bell during the Paschal service, joyfully proclaiming Christ's Resurrection-a tradition that became cherished and meaningful to witness. Terry is survived by his sister, Sharon (Tom) Grzywinski; sister-in-law, Carolyn; Cousin, John (Renee) Ellis and his many nieces and nephews: Stephanie, Geoff, Madison and John Van Sickle; Jennifer, Tim, Harry, and Peter Gallagher; Louis, Autumn, Ryan, Erica, Riley, Christian, Tony, and Megan Sommer. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Louis. Friends and family may visit Friday, February 20, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., with Trisagion prayers at 7:30 p.m. at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Road, Toledo, Ohio. Funeral services will take place Saturday, February 21, 2026, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A meal of mercy will be offered following the interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to St. George Orthodox Cathedral.
