Terrence "Terry" Hughes passed away suddenly at the age of 57. He is survived by his beloved son, James M. Hughes; his loving mother, Sheila S. Hughes; and his adoring sisters, Elizabeth (Hughes) Sciackitano and Sara (Hughes) O'Braitis. He was preceded in death by his father, James J. Hughes, in 2015. Terry leaves behind a legacy of family, kindness, intelligence, and deep connections with those he loved. A devoted cousin, uncle, and friend, his gentle manner and thoughtful spirit touched countless lives.
Born and raised in Homewood, Illinois, Terry grew up immersed in a lively community. He was a Boy Scout and Little League Baseball player at Isaac Walton Park, and a club soccer goalie that traveled on weekends to Indiana playing near the Indiana Dunes. Terry cherished the countless game nights spent with friends and family on Maple Road. He loved gatherings with extended family in Chicago, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and carried those memories with him throughout his life.
A talented singer, Terry performed with the Homewood Flossmoor High School Viking Choir traveling as far as Rome, Italy and performing Aaron's Blessing at the Sistine Chapel. He attended Loyola University Chicago and later entered an accelerated program in IT at the Illinois Institute of Technology setting the foundation for a successful career in information technology. His work took him across the country, from California, Georgia, Wisconsin and back to Chicago. Terry loved travel and especially to beaches where he could snorkel and enjoy the beauty of the ocean.
Terry's greatest achievement, however, was being a father. His son was his pride and joy, and he embraced fatherhood with love, and a deep sense of commitment.
Terry will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his ability to engage in meaningful conversations, and his eagerness to lend a hand to family and friends. Terry's love of reading, music, and photography was evident in every aspect of his life. An accomplished photographer and skilled musician, he found joy in playing the piano and guitar. He could always be found behind the camera at family events, but eventually coaxed to have his own photo taken. His willingness to join in the fun, a gentle laugh coupled with his signature look of a cap and glasses, made him unforgettable to all who knew him.
Terry was a simple man who found happiness in the everyday moments of life. Polite, humble, and deeply caring, he leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and kindness that we remember.
He will be profoundly missed by us, and his passing leaves a huge void in our hearts. But, he will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Aaron's Blessing: "May the Lord Bless and Keep you, The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, The Lord turn his face toward you, and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26
A celebration of our Terry's life will be held at a later date, including a donation to his favorite charity. Details will be shared with family and friends at that time. We thank you all for your prayers, kindness and support during this difficult time.
