Evans, GA – Terrence "Terry" Turner of Evans, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022, at the age of 80.
Born in Drift, Kentucky to Lenville and Norma Turner, Terry spent his childhood in Kentucky before enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 18. Over the course of his 21 year military career, Terry served our country in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force and earned many commendations for his work in Communications, including the Presidential Service Badge for his service in the White House. After military retirement, he worked in the propane industry and enjoyed traveling around the Southeast visiting with his many customers.
Terry married Dorothy Williamson in 1964 and together raised a family of four children and five grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, watching his beloved Kentucky Wildcats basketball games, and sharing stories of his Kentucky childhood and his experiences in the military. He also enjoyed stamp collecting, beach trips with his extended family, and "corn hole" competitions. Terry was a man of strong faith with a deep love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a member of The Sanctuary of Augusta.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Terry's family includes his children Laida Desboeufs (Phil), Missy Hughes (Cliff), Tony Turner (Laura), and David Turner; grandchildren Taylor Ellison-Price, Tara Gilbert, Turner Desboeufs, Will Turner, and Grayson Turner; sisters Linda Goff and Rhonda Meade; brothers William Turner and Danny Turner, along with many nieces and nephews. Terry is preceded in death by his parents Lenville and Norma, and siblings, Nedra Sloan, Mercedith Hoffman, and Donny Turner.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907. Funeral service will be held graveside Friday, January 28, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Bryan Cockrell officiating. Pallbearers will be David Turner, Tony Turner, Will Turner, Grayson Turner, Cliff Hughes, Philip Desboeufs, and Turner Desboeufs.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to support the work of God's Appalachian Partnership, 90 Big Bridge Road, McDowell KY, 41647, 606-377-0332, www.gapky.org.
