Terry Barney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. L. Davis Funeral Home on Mar. 12, 2026.
Terry Allen Barney, age 69, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Born on February 24, 1957, to Dorsey and Greta Barney, Terry lived in Martinsburg his entire life, beginning on East Liberty Street.

His deep commitment to his community was evident in the way he cherished his hometown, remaining close to family and neighbors throughout his life. Those who knew him will remember his strong sense of duty, resilience, and the pride he carried in the life he built.

Terry proudly served his country for 28 years as a member of the United States Army. Twenty-four of those years were spent with the 157th Military Police Company. During his distinguished military career, he served in Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Through decades of service, leadership, and dedication to those alongside him, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant before retiring. His service to his country was a defining part of his life and one that his family will forever honor with great pride.

In addition to his military career, Terry spent nearly 20 years working for Baugh Northeast (Sysco), in Winchester, VA, where he was known for his reliability, loyalty, and strong work ethic. He built lasting friendships with coworkers and took pride in the work he did each day.

Above all, Terry valued the people and companions who filled his life. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Apple and husband Chris; his three grandchildren, Jax, Mila, and Norah, who live in Massachusetts; his one brother, his aunt, Sue Fream of Martinsburg; his brother-in-law; his sister-in-law; and his beloved dog, Abby, a Basset Hound who was a constant companion and brought him comfort and joy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 34 years, Kimberly (Kimmie) Barney; his sister, Vicky; both his parents, Dorsey and Greta Barney; and his in-laws, Douglas and Linda Fries.

Terry will be remembered by family, friends, fellow service members, and all who knew him for his loyalty, his sense of responsibility, and the quiet strength that carried him through life.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life, as well as his distinguished service to the United States Army, will be planned and announced at a later date.

The family deeply appreciates the many messages of love, support, and remembrance shared during this difficult time.

Yesterday

Leslie, My condolences to you and your family. I will always cherish that Terry was a great friend, American Patriot, and proud father.
I especially appreciated that Terry could always be depended on to tackle any tough task, and there was never any doubt about his opinion on any subject or situation.
Damn, he is gone too soon and will be missed.
Godspeed to you and your family, Patrick Grim
