Terry Fred Hansen

Terry Fred Hansen, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026, held in the loving arms of his wife. He was born on September 2, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry Fred Hansen and Constance Elizabeth Wells Hansen. Terry grew up with his younger sisters, Peggy and Lola.

Terry graduated from Granite High School, where he expanded his lifelong love for music. He played the clarinet and saxophone in the school band and later formed his own dance band, performing cherished "Big Band" favorites. During these years, he also met the love of his life, Shirleen Mallinson.

Terry and Shirleen were sealed for time and all eternity on November 6, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. With the help of his father, the couple built their first home in Salt Lake City, where they began raising their family of six children. Terry found his greatest joy in spending time with his family-boating, fishing, hunting, and traveling in their trailer. Many hours were spent supporting his children's sports events and coaching some of their teams. A licensed pilot from a young age, Terry had a deep passion for aviation, and airshows became a treasured family tradition.

A skilled mechanic, Terry owned and operated a service station before becoming a Claims Supervisor for Farmers Insurance Group. His expertise and work ethic eventually led him to establish Hansen Claims Service, a successful insurance adjusting business he operated for many years with his father and son.

Terry was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served wholeheartedly in many callings, including Scoutmaster, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader. He was also active in his community and served as president of the Kiwanis Club. Terry had a generous spirit and was always among the first to offer help. Even into his 80's, he could be found clearing snow from neighbors' driveways and the church parking lot. A proud patriot, Terry never missed an opportunity to thank the men and women who serve our country.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife Shirleen of 72 years, his sister Lola Kartchner, his 6 children: Kevin T. Hansen (Susan), Sheri L. Christensen (Scott), Trudy L. Pearce (Rodney), Steven T. Hansen (Linda), Jacqueline DeHart (Kurt), and Danny K. Hansen (Susan). He is also survived by18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Peggy, and grandson Tyler.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the many physicians who cared for Terry over the years. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Timpanogos Regional Hospital and Hospice for their gentle, compassionate care and for the comfort they provided for our family. We also deeply appreciate the kindness and family environment offered by the staff at Cedarwood in Sandy.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2080 E. Pinecrest Lane, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, Utah.
