A Tribute to Coach Terry Osgerby ("Coach O")
Some people walk into your life and leave an impact that time can never erase. For me-and for so many others-that person was Coach Terry Osgerby.
Coach O wasn´t just a corner coach. He was the voice in my ear when doubt crept in, the steady hand on my shoulder when I needed grounding, and the driving force that helped me become a better version of myself-not just as an athlete, but as a person.
He believed in me and my teammates, often more than we believed in ourselves. He saw our potential on the tough days, in the quiet moments, and when the scoreboard didn´t tell the whole story. He didn´t just coach us. He invested in us. And in doing so, he changed our lives.
Coach O loved the Spirit Lake Indians with everything he had. That pride and passion radiated in everything he did-from early morning practices to late-night film reviews. His commitment was tireless, his loyalty unmatched.
I also want to honor the incredible group of mentors who stood beside him: Coach Backerman, Coach Graff, Coach Rizzutti, and Coach Jackson. Each of them brought their own kind of greatness, wisdom, and leadership into our lives. They were educators, motivators, and examples of character and courage. I´m forever grateful for their influence, encouragement, and belief in us.
But no one did that more-no one believed more fiercely, pushed more consistently, or cared more deeply-than Coach O.
Thank you, Coach, for seeing something in us, for expecting greatness, and for showing us how to chase it. Your legacy lives on in every one of us who had the privilege of being coached by you.
With gratitude and respect,
Steve Ferguson
