Terry G. "Shorty" Smith, age 63, of Dubuque, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Dubuque. To celebrate Terry's life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church Hall in North Buena Vista, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday at the church hall. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Buena Vista. Behr Funeral Home is assisting Terry's family.

He was born on July 20, 1962, on the US Air Force Base, in Swindon, England, son of Stanley and Pauline (Tombs) Smith.

Terry graduated from Leo High School in 1981. For several years, he worked as a farm hand for Matt & Stella Hefel and for several of his neighbors. Terry worked for a few years with Tegeler Crane building several bridges in the area. He also worked for over 23 years at Flexsteel Industries in Dubuque. Terry was a member of United Steel Workers Union. He was an incredibly hard-working and reliable friend who was always there to help in any way that he could. He was always available to help his brother mow grass, or any friend in need. Terry was a legendary prankster and was well-known for his shenanigans. He loved fishing and spending time with his nephews and his friend Tina.

Those left to cherish Terry's memory include

a sister,

Tina (Sam) Cruz, Plant City, FL;

2 brothers,

Ted (Angela) Smith, Arlington, IA

and Travis (Kristin) Smith, Dubuque, IA;

his niece,

Skylar Mobley;

4 nephews,

Dominic (Liz Reynolds) Smith, Tyler Smith, Lucas Smith and Joseph Smith;

his aunts and uncles;

and his long-time friend,

Tina Heller, Dubuque, IA.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Todd Smith.

Terry's family would like to thank all of his family and friends for their friendship and support over the years, especially his nephews that were so dear to him.
