Teresita Teodoro Arines, affectionately known as Tess, was a beacon of love and faith who graced this world with her presence from October 29, 1950, until her peaceful passing on March 11, 2026, in
Orange, California. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Manila, Philippines, Tess's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, unwavering faith, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
Tess's journey began in the bustling streets of Manila, where she received her education and nurtured a life filled with love and laughter. It was there that she met her soulmate, Angel Arines, through a family connection. Their love story was one for the ages, marked by an instant connection that blossomed into a beautiful marriage in 1975. Together, they celebrated over 28 years of partnership, filled with the joys and challenges of raising a family until Angel's passing in 2003. Tess's resilience and strength were evident as she shouldered the loss of her beloved husband and, her cherished son, Angel Arines Jr.
In the wake of her husband's death, Tess made the bold decision to move to the United States. She was embraced by her sister Baby Datuin's family – brother-in -law Joe, nephew Mark, niece Crisa and her husband Sean and her children Grayson and Bella. It was there, in the warmth of her new home in
Orange, California, that Tess continued the work she cherished most-being a homemaker. Her life was a testament to the power of a mother's love, as she poured her heart and soul into creating a nurturing environment for her children. Her dedication to her family was unmatched, with her days filled with the preparation of amazing meals and ensuring her home was a sanctuary of cleanliness and comfort.
Tess's love extended beyond the walls of her home and into her community. An avid gardener, she found solace in the beauty of nature and the tranquility it provided. Her faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her as a devout Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily and lifted her voice in song as a member of the church choir. Tess's melodious spirit brought joy to many, especially when she and her group sang at nursing homes or brought the magic of caroling to life during the Christmas season.
Shopping was another of Tess's pleasures, particularly when it involved finding the perfect gifts for her five grandchildren-Caleb, Frances, Ethan Arines, and Jacob and Maxwell Santos. Her eyes would light up with every visit from her children and grandchildren, a clear reflection of the selfless and loving grandmother she was.
Tess's legacy is carried on by her son Erick Arines and his wife Cherry; her daughter Cristina "Kit" Santos and her husband Darwin; her grandchildren; her sisters Mila Padilla and Baby Datuin; and a community that was blessed by her kindness and generosity. She has a host of nephews and nieces in the Philippines and here in the United States that she cared for and loved deeply and in return received great support and love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Angel Arines Sr., and their son, Angel Arines Jr.
To know Tess was to know a woman of great faith and boundless love-a selfless soul who dedicated her life to the well-being of others. Her memory will be treasured, her absence deeply felt, and her spirit forever guiding those she loved. Tess's life was a melody of devotion and care, and while the music may have quieted with her passing, the echoes of her love will resonate for eternity.
