Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson Funeral Homes - Columbia on Mar. 20, 2026.
CAYCE – Texa Campbell Fortner, 87, of Cayce, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Born in Jemison, Alabama, on July 24, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Martha Campbell.

A graduate of Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama, Texa was a member of the marching band, and music remained a joy throughout her life. After raising three children, she worked as an administrative assistant, using her many skills throughout her professional life.

Texa lived a life rooted in faith, creativity, and deep love for her family and friends. She was an active member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church for 55 years, where she valued her church family and remained involved throughout her life. A devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Cayce Chapter No. 260, she served as a Grand Representative and held numerous offices at both the chapter and Grand Chapter levels.

Texa had a gift for creating and caring for others through her many talents. She enjoyed crafting, from making Christmas ornaments to sewing her grandchildren's cherished Halloween costumes. Baking, gardening, floral arranging, and sharing her creations with those around her brought her immense joy. Texa loved a good laugh and treasured time spent with lifelong friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Ray Fortner, Sr., of 56 years, and her son, Marvin Campbell Fortner. She is survived by her daughter, Novella Fortner Beskid (Jim); son, Robert Ray Fortner, Jr. (Deborah); daughter-in-law, Claudia Langley Fortner; grandchildren, Alexandra Cole, Brook Fortner, Austin Beskid (Resa), Ray Fortner, Caroline Beskid, Campbell Fortner, and Janie Fortner; great-grandchildren, Campbell and Zion; sister Norma Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 29, at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 1:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, PO Box 5737, West Columbia, SC 29171.
