Thaddeus "Ted" G. Kulpaka, a longtime resident and business owner of Elmhurst Firestone for 70 years, died peacefully at home on November 11, 2025, at the age of 95. A devoted husband, loving father of seven, and proud grandfather, Ted dedicated his life to his family, business, and community.
Born in
Chicago, IL on June 13th, 1930, to George and Mary Kulpaka (née Plenc), Ted grew up in Bucktown, where he enjoyed playing basketball and softball. He was part of Saint Hedwig Parish and worked at Wilson Sporting Goods to pay for his college education. He attended Tuley High School, St. Thomas College in St. Paul, MN, and received a BS degree in Business Administration from DePaul University in 1953. In 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy (Doddie).
In 1953, following graduation, Ted lived in Chicago starting his family and career with Firestone as an Account Manager. This began his more than 70 year career in the Chicagoland area. In 1956 Ted moved to Elmhurst and purchased his own Firestone dealership where he successfully expanded over the years to include Elk Grove and Bensenville locations.
Ted was involved with many local Elmhurst organizations including President and Director roles of Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce, YMCA, and Rotary Club; as well as York State Bank and Firestone's Division and National Dealer Council. He dedicated his lifetime to helping those with disabilities, and made a profound impact by supporting The Ray Graham Association, who honored Ted with The RGA 2019 Legacy Award.
Outside of work, Ted was an avid reader, enjoyed golfing with friends, and travelling with his wife and family over the years. He cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ted was selfless, genuine, outspoken, and kind. Most of all he loved his family and instilled in them strong values that will continue his legacy. His favorite memories were spending time at River Forest Country Club, Ocean Reef Club and at our family home gatherings. While we share a deep sorrow at the loss of our loving and devoted Thaddeus (Ted), we take comfort in the countless memories and lifelong lessons he taught all of us. Ted lived a truly blessed life of 95 years, marked by his unwavering devotion to his church, family, and neighbors in the Elmhurst community.
