JACKSON, SC - THE REVEREND ALLEN FRANKLIN, 69, beloved husband of Joan Anderson Franklin, passed away Wednesday evening, December 6, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
A native of and lifelong resident of Jackson, Allen was a son of the late John Glenn and Doris Steed Franklin. He graduated from the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg. He met his wife of 49 years while attending high school. Allen retired from the U.S. Post Office in Augusta. He then attended and graduated from the Tri State Theology College of Ministry in Ridge Crest, NC. He served as pastor of Midlands Deaf Church in Lexington, SC from 1999 – 2005. He led the deaf ministry at Millbrook Baptist Church from 2005 until recently. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of the SC Deaf Bass Association.
Survivors in addition to his wife Joan include his son, John Dale Franklin (Kate), Everett, WA; his daughter, Jill Marie Franklin, Jackson, SC; three grandchildren, Jack, Ada and Milly Franklin; his brother, David Franklin, Kingsport, TN.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon, December 12th at 2 o’clock at Millbrook Baptist Church with The Rev. Gary Farina officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church’s atrium. A private graveside service will be held in Jackson Memorial Park Tuesday prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Millbrook Baptist Church’s Deaf Ministry, 223 South Aiken Blvd., Aiken, SC 29803.
