Thelma J. Latney

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. Phil 1:21-26 Thelma Ann Johnson Latney, lovingly known to many as (TJ and Mouse) was born to the late Harold and Minnie Johnson in Newtown, VA on October 16, 1943. She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 28, 2016. Thelma accepted Christ at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church where she remained an active member until her health began to fail. Shortly after graduating high school, Thelma moved to the Washington DC Metropolitan area in the late 1960's and worked at several businesses while attending college until she landed her career position as a Program Analyst for Logistics with the Department of Defense (Navy). She retired from DoD after 36 years of dedicated service. After retirement and even with the challenges of her health, she allowed "no grass to grow under her feet". She remained active; determined to live her life through her challenges. Thelma was a woman with a heart of gold. She had a kind Spirit and a forgiving Soul. She was loving, caring, (would do anything to help her family and friends) , and always the "Peace Maker". Until her health became the challenge of her life (never complaining), she enjoyed her career, cooking, traveling, driving (just driving-anywhere), and being around family and friends. When driving became a challenge; her dearest friends would pick her up to hang and bring her home (no matter the destination and time (day or night)) - that's how much she was loved. Thelma Johnson married Lewis Latney in the Spring of 1963 and to that union one child was born. She leaves to celebrate her life a daughter: LeTetia Y Latney of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She leaves precious memories to one grandson: William RaShaad J Latney; one great grand daughter: Trinity S Latney; two brothers: Harold W Johnson (JR), Manuel E Johnson (Edith), one sister: Sheila J Morton (Jessie); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
