Thelma Irene "Rene" Shrout, 87, of Matthews, Indiana, passed away on January 16, 2025, at Summit Health and Living in Summitville, Indiana. Born on January 2, 1938, in Bath County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of James and Nannie Mae (Bashaw) Goldie.
Rene was a devoted homemaker known for her exceptional cooking and meticulous housekeeping. She had a passion for gardening and reading, with her children and grandchildren being the greatest joys in her life. She was a member of the Prairie Grove Christian Church.
On July 14, 1958, she married Luther Shrout, who survives her. She is also survived by her children: Luther (Debbie) Shrout, Lisa Hough, L. Shannon (Steve Babbitt) Ricks, Lorne Shrout, and Lonna (Steve) Combs, along with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Luke Shrout and siblings Jack, Ray, Gary, Herman, Ed, Leana, Dorothy, and Betty.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN 46928. There will be a private family viewing at the Fairmount Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
