THEODOR KAUFMAN

KAUFMAN--Dr. Theodor. With profound sadness, the family of Dr. Theodor (Ted) Kaufman announces his death peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on November 26, 2022. A general surgeon and later an emergency room surgeon and administrator, the favorite of his varied jobs was in a medical van serving New York City's homeless. While he had creative passions aplenty, from bookbinding to ceramics to woodworking, the two most lasting were devising fiendishly difficult acrostic puzzles and creating dozens of works of stained glass art. He was sustained by love of family, the music of J.S. Bach, and his many friends. Ted met his wife, Linda, at Shaker Village summer camp and the romance lasted through 67 happy years of marriage. Along with Linda, he is also survived by his daughters, Laurie (John) Camm, Susan Ruiterman (Andy), and Lisa (Phillip) Dewhurst; his brother Michael (Debby) Kaufman; and his four beloved grandchildren: Jimmy, Sean, Emily, and Matthew. He was our rock and his life blessed ours.
