Theodore Demczar

COHOES Theodore Demczar, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Kryva, Ukraine, Ted was the son of the late Szymon and Anastasia Geleta Demczar. He moved to this country in 1962 and has resided in Cohoes for most of his life. He worked as a machinist at Simmons Machine Tools and prior to that at Cardish Machine Shop in Menands.
Ted always liked to be active. He walked 4 miles every day for years and then moved on to swimming at 5 a.m. each morning at the Cohoes Community Center in his 80's. He was known for his ability to fix anything and enjoyed repairing things around the home. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Ted was the loving husband of Stefania Zelinski Demczar who passed in 2014; the beloved father of Gene J. Demczar (Cherie) of Latham and Dorothy J. Demczar of Vienna, VA; the adoring grandfather of Jennifer, Nicholas, Christopher, Anthony, Megan, Erin and Lauren; the great grandfather of Audrey and Bryson; the brother of Andrew Demczar of Watervliet and the late Peter Demczar, Michael Demczar, Antonia Slota and Dimitry Demczar. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11 a.m. in St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Peter & St. Paul's Cemetery in Waterford.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-6 p.m.
A Panakhyda service will be held at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
