Theodore Dillard Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Dillard

It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Theodore "Ted" Dillard, 87, beloved husband of almost 69 years to Dorothy "Dot" Dillard, and beloved father to Larry, Dwain, Teresa, and Susan, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at his home in Spotsylvania, Virginia.

Ted was born and raised in Spotsylvania, Virginia. He worked many years throughout his life for different companies and side jobs. Among those were General Products, Whalen Company, Briggs Vending, Naval Surface Weapons Center, and Lifecare Medical Transports. The good old days were always an important and proud subject that he often shared. He loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed the outdoors, which included yard work and gardening. He loved classic car shows, old westerns, his antiques, and his animals. He had great compassion for the handicapped and for all animals. He enjoyed spending time with his family during holidays, cookouts, and crab feasts. He was a proud, strong-willed, handsome man with a big heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Ted was loved and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Dillard; children, Larry Dillard (Karen), Teresa Carroll (Corky), and Susan Lockard; grandchildren, Stephanie Cairns (Scott), Kara Cairns (Mark), Lauren Matthews (Marcus), Mikeal Lockard (Katelynn), and Lyndsay Lockard; great-grandchildren, Hunter Cairns, Lexy Cairns, Lyla Cairns, Leah Cairns, Olivia Matthews, and Madelyn Matthews; sister, Barbara Thomas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Loula Dillard; son Dwain Dillard; and his siblings, Emmitt Dillard, Hazel Eubank, Evelyn Embrey, Howard Dillard, and Thelma Randall.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in the cemetery at Shady Grove Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and family at the interment with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
