Theodore Haydn

Theodore Haydn, age 81, of Collins, died Saturday morning at New Life Hospice, after a long illness. He was born October 7, 1927, in Elyria, to John and Elizabeth (Tarrak) Haydn. Mr. Haydn graduated from LaGrange Keystone high school. He retired from banking after 25 years. After he was retired, he worked at Gerber Funeral Home in Wakeman for 10 years. During his earlier adult years he was a Boy Scout leader, 4H advisor, and a Methodist Youth Advisor in LaGrange, Ohio. He was the first president of the LaGrange Civic Federation and instrumental in getting a doctor in the community. He was a Master of the Old Glory Grange. A member of Wakeman Grange and served as treasurer. He was a 50 year Grange member. Mr. Haydn was also a member of LaGrange Masonic Lodge #399 for 50 years, 32nd degree Mason, and a past secretary. He was also an Eastern Star member for 50 years. During WWII, Mr. Haydn served in the USA army under general George Patten in European Theater. He also served as a director of Easter Seal in Lorain County for 35 years, and was instrumental in starting Easter Seal in Huron County. He served on the Lorain County Fair Board for 8 years. He also belonged to the Norwalk Lions Club, as a Past President and Cabinet Secretary. He and his wife attended 17 International Lions Conventions. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norwalk and served in many positions of the church council. He was also a member of the Lorain County Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland. Mr. Haydn married Louise (Balogh) Haydn on September 18, 1954. They lived in Collins for 39 years. He is survived by his wife, and two brothers John (Betty) Haydn, of LaGrange, Ohio and William (Charlotte) Haydn, of LaGrange, Ohio; two sisters-in-law Margaret Snyder and Ethel Lower, both of north Lima, Ohio;and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends may call 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at Morman Funeral Home in Wakeman. Masonic services will be held Tuesday evening at 7:30 P.M. Family and friends may call 9 to 10 A.M., with funeral service at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Norwalk First United Methodist Church. 60 W. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio. Rev.
