Theodore Stanley Smith, age 69, a cherished husband, father, and esteemed member of the legal community, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2025, at his home while under hospice care. He was born on November 29, 1955, in New Jersey, and spent the last 32 years enjoying the tranquil beauty of Hunterdon County, NJ.
Ted was a highly esteemed lawyer throughout his 42-year legal career. He earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1983. After serving as a federal clerk in the District of New Jersey, Ted joined Shanley & Fisher, one of New Jersey’s largest and most respected law firms, which later became known as Drinker, Biddle & Reath. He managed to be a strong litigator and negotiator while maintaining a dignified and professional approach.
Known for his humble nature and kindness, Ted was a devoted family man who brought warmth and patience to all of his relationships. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Cornelia (D'Annunzio) Smith, their daughter, Samantha Smith, and her husband, Alexander Gomez-Rivera, of Alexandria Township, NJ. In addition to his immediate family, Theodore leaves behind an extended family of nine siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held him in high regard.
An avid surfer, Ted found joy in the water at the beaches of the Outer Banks and the Jersey Shore. His love for travel could be found in the meticulous details and planning of his many trips across the world. His passion for life and commitment to his family will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
