Theodore Eugene Smith, 85, passed away on September 16, 2025, in Renton Washington. Born on March 14, 1940, in Roseau, Minnesota to Theodore and Irene Smith. Ted lived a life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and a deep connection to his roots.
He graduated from Greenbush high school in 1958 where he was active in both basketball and football. As a youth, Ted was involved in FFA and 4H and took pride in showing Aberdeen Angus cows at the Roseau County fair earning recognition for his efforts. These early experiences laid the foundation for a lifetime of industriousness and commitment.
Shortly after high school, Ted joined the United States Army in 1958. He completed Boot Camp at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas and underwent combat training at Fort Carson, Colorado before serving in the army supply division at Fort Lewis, Washington his time in the military instilled discipline and a strong sense of responsibility that would carry through every chapter of his life.
Following his honorable discharge from the army, Ted began working for the Boeing company for several years before transitioning into construction. He joined the union and specialized in finish carpentry a craft he pursued with skill and pride. Even after retiring from construction, he remained active by working at Home Depot to keep himself busy and engaged.
In the 1970s, alongside his beloved wife, Ruth Smith, Ted founded the Smith Family Rabbitry an adventure that reflected their shared interest and love for animals. Yet among all his pursuits, nothing brought him more joy than putting up Hay during the summer months a task he cherished above all else.
Ted was a longtime member of the first Christian Church of Kent before becoming part of Kent Covenant Church. His faith community was an important part of his life Over many years.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister ArleneSvir, his children, Randy LaRoche ( Carreen), Lynnette Lutchendorf (Scott), Lavonne Smith, Karen Johnson; as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Ruth Smith and son George LaRoche.
A man known for being hard-working and a good provider, Ted leaves behind a legacy rooted in perseverance, craftsmanship, and a devotion to those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on October 17, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Tahoma National Cemetery 18600 SE. 240th St., Kent, WA 98042. Potluck Fellowship to follow at his home after memorial
