Theodore Smith, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. Born on April 5, 1945, in Lumberton, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Claude Smith and Maggie Byrd.
Theodore proudly served his country with distinction for 25 years in the United States Air Force, followed by 27 years of dedicated service with the Federal Government at the Defense Intelligence Agency, leaving a lasting legacy of integrity and commitment.
A devoted husband and family man, he shared a lifetime of love with his wife, Edita Smith. He was a proud father to Theodore Smith Jr., Maria Sheryl Hawkins, Maria Christine Jackson, and Anthony Smith; a caring stepfather to Richard Tolentino and Ronald Estrella; he is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren and is survived by his former wife, Concepcion Smith-O'Neil, the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Richard Smith.
Beyond his professional life, Theodore had a deep love of sports. A devoted North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball fan, he found joy coaching soccer and baseball, and enjoyed playing softball and bowling, always bringing encouragement and good humor.
Theodore will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, dedication to family, and lifelong service to his country. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, Maryland, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery with full honors.
