Theodore Adamyk Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Adamyk

Aug 16, 1925 - Feb 21, 2026

Theodore "Ted" Adamyk, 100, passed into his Heavenly home and the loving arms of his Savior on February 21, 2026.

Ted was born August 16, 1925 to Dimitri "Matt" and Mary (Hryckow) Adamyk in Wilton, N.D. The family lived in Chapin for a few years until the death of his father in 1932. His mother acquired one of the Chapin mine houses which was moved to the Hryckow farmstead NE of Wilton near Painted Woods Creek. As a kid he had a trap line along the creek and would skate miles every day checking traps. He helped his uncles on the farm until joining the Army in 1944. Ted served in the Philippines during World War II where he was part of a 3-man field artillery team, carrying the mortar tube, and later served in Korea. He was discharged in 1946.

Ted married Jeanette Danielson on November 8, 1952, in Wilton. They moved to the farm where Jeanette grew up and there raised their six children and nurtured 19 grandchildren. Ted was a member of the Mission Evangelical Free Church in Wilton, served on the church board, Grass Lake School board and Township board.

It is impossible to condense 100 years into a short narrative. Ted had many natural and acquired skills and talents which led to a variety of endeavors. He was a surveyor for the ND Highway Department mapping roads throughout North Dakota, co-owned a gas station in Wilton with his cousin, then farmed and ranched. In 1962, he bought a backhoe to dig a water line to their house. Soon others asked him to do projects for them, which evolved into what became known as Ted's Excavating, doing both backhoe and scraper work. There is evidence all through the community and state of basements, water and sewer lines, plumbing installs, concrete projects, dam construction, etc. that he completed.

He was well known for his creative ingenuity, mechanical aptitude, inventive mind, work ethic, and giving of his time to help others, doing jobs without pay, lending a hand or giving a handout. He tinkered in his shop, inventing a "tool" for a job or figuring out a solution to a problem. He seemed to work magic as a mechanic and in his ability to fix or repair just about anything. His neighbors called him 'the magician'. In addition, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, traveling, reading and jig-saw puzzles!

Ted was a provider and protector, a unique individual with big, strong hands, a generous spirit, a caring heart and intense love for his family; his wife; his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his mom and siblings, his nieces and nephews.

Above all, Ted in his early 20's accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, which he stated "changed the course of his life." He had a strong faith and it was his deep desire that others also know Jesus personally. He stated, "Tell them, 'I want to see all of you in Heaven.' "

Ted is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; his parents; and siblings, Michael, Pearl, Zinnia, Anna, and Olga. He is survived by his children: Jon (Laura), Karen (Wayne) Martineson, Linda Holden, Rodney (Gabriela), Nancy Adamyk, and Lois (Bill) VanEpps; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Mission Evangelical Free Church, 701 7th St N, Wilton.

It was such a joy to attend Ted's 100th birthday. Ted has always been a favorite relative. His great stories entertained many times. We regret we cannot attend his funeral but are glad we can watch it online. The day Ted entered heaven, the angels rejoiced, a celebration began and his Savior welcomed him home with "Well done my faithful servant."

Adamyk Family,
I got to know Ted as a customer at Western Steel and Plbg. Always a pleasure to see and visit with. A true gentleman friendly, polite & a man of God. His love of the Lord truly showed.
May God grant you peace and comfort at this time of loss.
