Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt Duckworth, 86 went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023. He was a native of Avery County and the son of the late Gurney L. and Brazilla Braswell Duckworth. He was the husband of 60 years to the late Hilda Mansfield Duckworth.
Ted retired from Culp Weaving and was a member of the former Bethel United Methodist Church.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed following the sport of boxing. Ted enjoyed gardening and mowing his children’s lawns. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Duckworth of the home, Kathie (Mic Brooks) Patterson of Burlington; sons, Gurnie (Kathy) Duckworth of Burlington, Rickie (Wanda) Duckworth of Burlington, Randy Duckworth of Burlington; grandchildren, Brandi Duckworth, Lauren Russell, Ryan Duckworth, Cole and Chase Patterson; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Mildred (James) Buchanan of Morganton, NC; a special niece who was like a daughter, Julie Minor of Graham; special friends, Will McManus, Lori Lineberry and Jean Shoe. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; brothers, Ray, Wayne and June Duckworth and sisters, Paula Martindale, Wilma Hicks and Jal Moser.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Authoracare Hospice for their kind and compassionate care for Ted during his illness.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery by Rev. Walter Jones. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
