Theresa Clara Fasching

September 14, 1936 – January 17, 2026

Theresa Clara Fasching, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Cokato Manor. In December, she learned that she had an inoperable brain tumor, so with help from her family she moved into The Cokato Manor, where she spent her final days.

She was the youngest of seven children, born on September 14, 1936, to Andrew and Cortula T. (Segner) Gueningsmann in Winsted Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She grew up with her siblings on the family farm in Winsted.

She went to the Holy Trinity Catholic School through 8th grade, where her lifelong Catholic faith was nurtured and blossomed. She was encouraged and supported throughout her life by her strong faith in Jesus and high regard for Mary. She prayed the Rosary often and kept one with her always during her final days at Cokato Manor.

She worked at the Green Giant Canning Factory. She had many talents and undertook many challenges. She always enjoyed gardening and shopping, especially at garage sales. She was an excellent cook and baker and always loved trying new recipes. She even laid drain tiles with her husband, Shobby.

She loved babysitting the little ones. and visiting with family and friends. She became the person who knew all the family connections and the family stories. She would call to check on everyone to be sure all was well and to learn the latest updates on their lives.

On December 7, 1965, Theresa C. Gueningsmann and Edward J. "Shobby" Fasching were joined in Holy Marriage. On July 25, 1985, Edwin J. Fasching passed away. She found a friendship and loving companionship with her neighbor, Harold Engle, who had also lost his wife. Eventually, they traveled together to visit Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley.

Theresa is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J Fasching, her parents, two sisters (Bernice & Marie), four brothers Joseph, Roman, Donald and Raymond and her loving companion, Harry and her dogs.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Theresa Fasching will be held on Thursday, January 29 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant.

A visitation will be held on Thursday morning, January 29 from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.

Interment will be held on Friday, January 30 at 10:00 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery Assembly Area #4.
