Theresa Guidry Himel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the age of 69. Resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Theresa was born on August 30, 1955, in Lutcher, Louisiana, daughter of the late Eugene and Irene Simon Guidry Jr. She graduated from Nicholls State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and devoted her professional life to caring for others as an OB/GYN and registered nurse at St. James Hospital in Lutcher and Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. A dedicated member of her community, Theresa was an active participant in numerous church and charitable activities. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters, served as the St. Jean Vianney Prayer Line Coordinator, and was a Eucharistic minister for the homebound and nursing home residents.
Theresa had a passion for the arts, particularly acrylic and watercolor painting. She also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially Yorkshire Terriers, adopting several furry companions over the years. Above all, Theresa's greatest joy was her family, she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. Family gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the warmth only she could provide.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Joseph Guidry, Sr., and Irene Simon Guidry; brother, Donald Guidry; and nephew and godchild, Lee Paton.
Theresa is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, David E. Himel; daughter, Kristy Himel Boiteaux (Scott); son, Jason J. Himel (Shondelle); sister, Kathy Guidry Paton (Roger); brothers, Glen Guidry (Joy), and Eugene Guidry III (Melinda); sister-in-law, Kathleen DeGroff Guidry; grandchildren, Lakelynn Himel and Maddie Boiteaux; and her treasured fur “children” Pepper, Puddin, and Toby.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Oncology and palliative care teams at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, as well as Clarity Hospice, for their compassionate care.
The family would like to invite all who knew and loved Theresa to join them as we commemorate her life.
